Allied Health Geriatric Care Level III

The Allied Health Geriatric Care Level III programme is offered in Collaboration with HEART Trust/NTA Southwest TVET Institute. The programme is delivered in accordance with the National Qualifications Framework which defines all qualifications recognized nationally in post-secondary, technical and vocational education and training within Jamaica. Upon successful completion of the course participants will receive double certification from:

 Regent College of the Caribbean and the HEART Trust/NTA

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The programme has a duration of one year and runs from September to June annually. The programme is delivered and assessed in accordance with the Qualification Standards established by HEART Trust NTA which is recognized internationally.

  • Persons who want to pursue a career in patient care assistance
  • Persons who want to acquire the competence to work in Nursing Homes
  • Persons who want to provide general patient care especially to the Elderly
  • Persons who want to work in Hospitals and other Health Care Facilities

 

   Competency Description

  1. PARTICIPATE IN WORKPLACE SAFETY PROCEDURES
  2. MAINTAIN A SAFE, CLEAN AND EFFICIENT WORK ENVIRONMENT
  3. ATTEND TO SANITATION AND HYGIENE CARE
  4. MEASURE VITAL SIGNS
  5. APPLY BASIC FIRST AID
  6. PROVIDE NUTRITIONAL CARE
  7. ASSIST CARE RECIPIENT WITH MEDICATION
  8. PROVIDE CARE FOR PERSONS WITH HIV/AIDS
  9. ASSESS SKIN STATUS/CONDITION AND IMPLEMENT PREVENTATIVE AND CORRECTIVE MEASURES
  10. ADMINISTER NURSING PROCEDURE UNDER SUPERVISION
  11. OBSERVE, DETECT AND RESPOND TO SIGNS OF ABUSE
  12. SUPPORT ELDERLY PERSON TO MEET THEIR EMOTIONAL AND PSYCHOSOCIAL NEEDS
  13. SUPPORT PERSON WITH DISABILITIES IN GERIATRIC CARE
  14. CONDUCT A RECREATION PROGRAMME FOR PERSONS IN GERIATRIC CARE
  15. OBSERVE MUSCULAR COORDINATION, REPORT FINDINGS AND ASSIST IN CORRECTIVE MEASURES
  16. SUPPORT THE ELDERLY PERSON TO MAINTAIN THEIR INDEPENDENCE
  17. PROVIDE CARE SUPPORT TO SENIOR CITIZENS
  18. PROVIDE CARE/SUPPORT WHICH IS RESPONSIVE TO BEHAVIOURAL CHANGES
  19. CARE FOR THE DYING ELDERLY PERSON
  20. PERFORM INTERACTIVE WORKPLACE COMMUNICATION
  21. CONTRIBUTE TO A HARMONIOUS AND EFFICIENT WORK ENVIRONMENT
  22. SUPPORT LEADERSHIP IN THE WORKPLACE
  23. CONTRIBUTE TO EFFECTIVE WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS
  24. PARTICIPATE IN WORK TEAMS
  25. DELIVER AND MONITOR A SERVICE TO CUSTOMERS
